New Businesses, Established Businesses and Non-Profits

Visions, Mission Statements, Goals, Measurable Objectives, and Business Plans all provide businesses with a road map for advancement.  A ways and means to become more profitable, to increase sales, to create or expand a customer base, to name a few and the list goes on.

Let me ask you a question: Let's say you have a wonderful business.  You have a great client base.  Then one day one of your customers stop by and mentions that they stopped by someone else's shop and they had widgets for cheaper -- what would you do?

Too many times I hear on the streets that a customer is getting better service or cheaper goods from a different provider or store and have moved on.  They tell their friends, but they aren't telling the businesses they just left why they left.  Long gone are the days of loyal customers.  And the same thing is now applying to young employees.  How great would it be if customers would tell you how you compare to your competitors!?!

I met with a restaurant owner once who told me he couldn't believe his customers didn't realize he had bills to pay.  How dare he not realize he was there to serve his customers?  Just the night before I had attended a special event within his restaurant...there were 30 guests and it took over 90 minutes to serve the first person between their plate and their bread.  His business soon closed.

Today's Small Business owner is facing 3 hard facts:

  • Keeping Customers
  • Managing Finances
  • Keeping Employees

Keeping Customers:  Studies have proven our population changes how they spend every 3-years.  Take a look around and you can see the latest trend either coming or going -- can you determine what's coming next?  Are you the next trend setter?

Managing Finances:  So, you know your business - what you want to provide your customers & how much you want to make - but the final numbers just aren't there, why?  CPA's are not going to tell you the answer - they will only help you with your black and red numbers.  You need someone who will propose ways to improve your efficiency and profitability through reduced costs and increased revenues!!

Keeping Employees:  Do your employees know what's expected?  Are your standards set in place?  Are they praised in public and counseled in private?

There are so many areas to running an efficient business -- so many factors to take into consideration:

  • What is the Vision for your company?
  • When was the last time you looked at your Business Plan?
  • Do you even have a Business Plan?
  • What are your Company's Goals?  Are they Customer, Personal or Business based?
  • Is your Strategy Plan working for you?
  • What about your Marketing Plan?
  • How's your Finances?
  • How do you bill your Customers?  And your filing system for tax season?
  • What about your Employees -- How many do you have?
  • Do your Employees know what's expected and when?  Is it written down?
  • Do you have any sub-contractors?  How do you pay them?
  • Do you have a Board of Directors or an Advisory Board?
  • Are you Organized or are you Cluttered with papers and/or disorganized?
  • Is your company providing a clear statement showing who you are, what you stand for and who you provide your services to?

All these things really matter!!  They play a very Big part to you, as a company and to your Customers!

Think of it as a Business Adventure -- you wouldn't get into your car and drive into unknown territory without a road map or setting up your GPS.  The same thing is with your business.  You need a good road map to get you where you want to go with the people that will get you there.

Whether you decide to create this road map yourself, hire someone else, or hire Dr. Wanda -- know these steps are vitally important to your Business and its structure.
